Vladimir Zelensky released his directorial debut “I, You, He, She.” At the same time, he is filming the third season of the series “Servant of the People,” which will be released in March 2019, appears in weekly television shows, and also announces his plans to become the president of Ukraine. We remember the best films of Zelensky, the main newsmaker of recent weeks.
Servant of the People 2 (2016)
The film became the tenth film of the Kvartal-95 studio, starting with the film “Love in the Big City,” which the studio released back in 2009. In April 2017, the film was nominated in three categories for the Golden Dziga Ukrainian Film Academy Award.
In August 2017, the film was selected to participate in the Focus on World Cinema section, the main program of the Montreal International Film Festival. It, like all the full-length films of Kvartal 95, paid off. This is a unique case for modern Ukrainian cinema.
According to the story, former history teacher Vasily Goloborodko has been heading the state for almost six months. But the situation in the country does not contribute to the growth of popular trust in the president.
Goloborodko understands that if he does not take action soon, he may not even count on remaining in power. In such a difficult situation, the president decides to directly address the people. And that’s why he goes on an all-Ukrainian tour.
Rzhevsky against Napoleon (2012)
To relieve boredom, Napoleon Bonaparte started a world war. And in order to stop the passionate lover of women, the Russian generals decide to escort an unapproachable beauty to him. It must distract the usurper from his aggressive activities. But this beauty is not real, but Lieutenant Rzhevsky in disguise.
The comedy was filmed in 3D format and became the most expensive project of Zelensky the producer.
8 First Dates (2012)
Nikita is doing great in life. He is a well-known veterinarian in the city and is engaged to a successful plastic surgeon, Ilona. TV presenter Vera is also moving towards a wedding with tennis player Kostya. However, after a bachelor party in the same nightclub, Vera and Nikita woke up together. From the moment they fall asleep, young people always wake up in the same bed.
This comedy directed by David Dodson and Alexander Malyarevsky was a great success with audiences. Therefore, over time, two more parts of the franchise were released.
Love in the City (2009)
The plot centers on three young friends Artem, Igor and Ole, nicknamed Sauna. Seducing girls for guys has turned into a real competition, in which sex is a victory. But after the trio encounters a strange man at one of the parties, everything in their lives changes.
Soon after that very party, it turns out that the friends have lost their virility. And medicine is powerless in their case. The guys start to really panic, and they don’t stop visiting all kinds of specialists. The point here is not at all a matter of physiology, but simply magic intervened in their lives.
In March 2010, the premiere of the second part of the film with the participation of the same characters took place. The third part of the franchise appeared in 2013.
Servant of the People (2015-…)
The political comedy “Servant of the People” has become the most discussed TV series in recent years. According to the plot, history teacher Vasily Petrovich Goloborodko loses his temper at the bestiality of the life around him and, in a fit of anger, obscenely expresses everything that is boiling up. A student in his class films this monologue on a mobile phone and posts it on the Internet, thus receiving millions of views.
Goloborodko becomes very popular and, succumbing to the persuasion of his students, puts forward his candidacy for the presidential election. Immediately after the elections, a motorcade headed by the Prime Minister arrives at an ordinary Kyiv apartment on Darnitsa. And a completely new life begins for a simple history teacher living with his parents.
I, You, He, She (2018)
Max and Yana, having been married for ten years, decide to divorce by mutual consent. However, the judge, remembering his first education as a psychologist, gives the spouses one last chance to save the relationship.
This is the first film in which the leader of the Kvartal 95 studio, Vladimir Zelensky, acts as a production director. And also the studio’s first film in which there is more Ukrainian than Russian.
Matchmakers (2008-2012)
The main characters of the series are the Budko and Kovalev families. They are radically different: if the Budkos are rural provincials, then the Kovalevs are urban intellectuals. Fate brings them together when their children, who got married, leave their little wife in their care. Each family, of course, fights for her attention, wanting to include her in their understanding of the world. But it differs markedly among families.
Despite the indignation of the project’s producer, Zelensky, in 2017, Goskino banned the screening of all seasons of the series in Ukraine. The reason was the statements about the occupation of Crimea by one of the actors of the series – Fyodor Dobronravov.
