The new film by Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn, “The Neon Demon,” made a frightening impression on viewers. Critics note the extreme cruelty of the film.
In the center of its plot is a young sexy girl Jessie, who is taking her first steps in the fashion industry. Finding herself among top models, she soon realizes that many of them want more than anything to get her youth, beauty and vitality.
The main roles in the film were played by Elle Fanning, Christie Hendrix and Keanu Reeves.
In 2011, Röfn received the prize for best director at Cannes for the film Drive. And in 2013, he showed his provocative drama “Only God Forgives” at the film forum.
After watching “The Neon Demon,” critic Anton Dolin wrote: “After “Only God Forgives,” his friends probably said: “Old man, come on, it can’t be worse!” And he was like, offended: “How is this impossible? We bet it’s possible?” And he won the bet.”
Critics’ opinions of the film were sharply divided. According to Deadline, fans of Refn’s work will be even more impressed by this film than the previous one. And the Telegraf publication notes that the film intertwines features of Italian horror, Chilean mysticism and Hollywood glamor.
