Brad Pitt: The best films of the actor

During his career, Brad Pitt starred in eight dozen films, and also released about fifty tapes as a producer. Of all these paintings, we chose the best that radically changed the fate and career of Pitt.

“12 Years a Slave” (2013)

This film by Steve McQueen brought Brad Pitt an Oscar. But he received the statuette of the American Film Academy not as an actor (after all, in this tape he appeared in an episodic role for only a couple of minutes), but as a producer. True, it was the most prestigious statuette “For the best film”. In addition to this picture, Pitt was nominated four more times for an Oscar for 12 Monkeys, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Man Who Changed Everything, The Big Short and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

The plot of the drama “12 Years a Slave” takes place in the United States in the middle of the nineteenth century. In the center of the plot is a free African American Solomon Northup, who lives in New York. One day he is offered a job in Washington. On the way to another city, Solomon is kidnapped and sold into slavery. Over the next 12 years, it passes from one owner to another. But despite all the trials, the man continues to maintain honor and dignity.

“Tree of Life” (2011)

Another film by Pitt-producer, which won one of the most prestigious film awards in the world – the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.

This film, filled with poetry, metaphors and allusions, directed by Terrence Malick, tells the story of an 11-year-old boy named Jack. His mother teaches him love and kindness, and his father brings up courage and stamina in him. However, Jack learns the most important life lessons by carefully observing the world around him. One day he is faced with the suffering and death of a loved one. These experiences radically change his life.

This drama by Andrew Dominik earned Pitt the most important acting award of his career to date, the Venice Film Festival’s Volpi Cup for Best Actor.

The film is based on the true story of one of America’s most notorious assassins of the 19th century, Jesse James. Neither the bounty hunters nor the sheriffs could catch him, as Jesse carefully thought out his crimes. He could also hide from any pursuit and emerge unscathed from a firefight even with a dozen opponents. Therefore, fame spread about him as the most invulnerable and invincible criminal of the country. But one day, Jesse met a timid guy, Robert Ford, who sent the famous villain to the next world.

“Snatch” (2000)

Surely, Pitt would not have gotten the role of Jesse James if seven years before the aforementioned film he had not starred in Guy Ritchie’s dashing British action movie “Snatch”. The actor so harmoniously played a swindler in this tape that after it Pitt was actively invited to crime films. Over the years, there were even more such tapes in his career than melodramas in which he played romantic heroes-lovers.

“Snatch” is about a group of thieves who steal one of the world’s largest diamonds. They are trying to ship the gem from Europe to the US. However, other criminal elements who also want to take possession of the diamond learn about the plans of the criminals. After that, a tense and at the same time comical struggle between different criminal gangs begins, each of which wants to hit the big jackpot.

“Inglourious Basterds” (2009)

This tape by Quentin Tarantino set another vector in the work of Pitt, forcing him to get used to military uniforms. After this film, the actor played the American military during World War II twice more in the films Fury (2014) and Allies (2016). And then his on-screen military rank grew right up to the general (the film “War Machine”, 2017).

In Inglourious Basterds, Pitt plays an American lieutenant who leads a squad of Jewish soldiers. They take revenge on the Nazis by scalping them. In parallel, the story of the girl Suzanne, who works in a Parisian cinema, develops. She also seeks revenge on the Nazis for their atrocities. One day, she meets the commander of a detachment of Jews and, together with him, begins to plan the assassination of Hitler himself.

“Mr. and Mrs. Smith” (2005)

The film marked the end of Pitt’s seven-year relationship with Friends star Jennifer Aniston. During the filming of this spy comedy, the actor became close to his partner in this tape, Angelina Jolie. A year later, their daughter Shiloh Nouvel was born.

Pitt and Jolie play a married couple who lives in the suburbs in this tape. At first glance, they seem to be ordinary people. However, in reality, the spouses are professional assassins who hide their true occupation from each other. One day, they receive a task from their bosses to kill each other. First, the heroes of Pitt and Jolie try to do it in sophisticated ways, and then more frankly. But even after the couple destroys the whole house, they cannot end each other. And then their bosses decide to resort to more radical methods.

“World War Z” (2013)

Despite his popularity, Pitt did not star in any film that grossed more than $ 1 billion at the box office. The highest grossing blockbuster with the participation of the actor was “World War Z”. Her box office has reached an unremarkable $540 million.

The blockbuster tells the story of former UN employee Jerry Lane. One day, a virus attacks his city, turning people into bloodthirsty zombies. To save himself, he tries to escape the city with his family. True, on the way Jerry is waiting for many obstacles and dangers. Soon the protagonist learns that the virus has spread throughout the world. In this regard, the protagonist returns to the service to stop the epidemic.

“Troy” (2004)

Three of them received “Oscars” for the best film, several more participated in the most prestigious film festivals, and some became box office hits (“Kick-Ass”, “Eat, Pray, Love”, etc.).

Troy is an adaptation of Homer’s Iliad. The film is about two Trojan princes who go to Sparta. There, one of the princes named Paris seduces and takes with him the wife of the local king Menelaus. Because of this, the offended king gathers an army and goes to Troy, which no army has previously been able to conquer.

“Seven” (1995)

Pitt himself has repeatedly noted that it was this film that expanded his acting horizons and became a turning point at the beginning of his career. After this thriller, the actor received critical acclaim, and several magazines made him one of the sexiest actors at once.

The picture tells about detective William Somerset, who has been working in the police for a long time and is about to retire. However, a few days before the resignation, a serial killer begins to operate in the city. Somerset’s partner becomes a young and inexperienced guy Mills. It soon becomes known that the maniac chooses as victims those who fall under the seven deadly sins described in the bible.

“Fight Club” (1999)

Initially, this film showed very weak box office in theaters. However, over the years, it has gained cult status, entered the top ten best films in history according to IMDb, and also became a real hit at home viewing.

The film is based on the novel of the same name by Chuck Palahniuk. In the center of his plot is an ordinary clerk of a large corporation, who leads a very boring lifestyle. His only entertainment is buying new products from catalogs. But one day he meets a guy named Tyler Durden, who is very different from him. They communicate closely and soon the main character begins to live as liberated as Tyler. Together they organize a secret “Fight Club” where they let off steam.

Bullet Train (2022)

An assassin nicknamed “Ladybug” boards a Japanese bullet train to steal a briefcase. Soon he discovers that several other killers are on the same mission. The high-speed ride turns into a violent and chaotic battle. Each stop brings more danger and dark humor. The film blends fast-paced action with irony and absurdity.
