Посткроссинг

One of the few disadvantages of total digitalization: the spiritual tradition of sending cardboard cards with congratulations on holidays has begun to fade into the past. And everything is in our hands! And each of us has the opportunity to choose, sign and send a postcard with sincere words to dear people.

This tradition has its roots in the estate of British official Sir Henry Cole. In 1843, he did not have time to prepare letters of greeting to his many friends and relatives. Therefore, the official turned to the artist John Horsley with a request to draw several identical cards depicting the Cole family sitting at the holiday table. Very soon this idea became widely known throughout Europe and similar postcards began to be printed in thousands of copies. And in 2001, one of Cole’s cards went under the hammer at auction for $32,000.
