CORONAVIRUS REPORT № 1

This text below should be a current Box Office Report in Russian. Since there is practically nothing to report on this subject, we are going to inform our readers about how the US and world entertainment industry and its workers cope with unseen before problem of coronavirus pandemic, as well as about any new positive and, sorry, negative developments. One of them worth mentioning: almost immediately after allowing about 500 movie theaters to open in China the countries’ government ordered to close all of them. Not much money was lost since on average there was one (just one!) attendee per theater.

Many French people compare almost siege situation in the country with that of the Nazi occupation. Ironically, some streets on Montmartre do look like under occupation with Nazi posters and announcements glued to the walls, because the motion picture about that period which was filmed there was ordered to abruptly abandon the location.

Speaking of French: In order to give films a chance to make at least some money the government decided to abandon so called window between theatrical release of the film and its demonstration on TV or streaming platforms which was the toughest in Europe and may be in the world – 36 months. The French film exhibitors energetically protested: It is not good to break “windows”, Chers Messeiurs!
