December 1: what holidays, signs, church dates

On the first day of December, when winter begins to envelop us in its cold, the world is filled with a variety of holidays reflecting history, social values and health concerns.

December 1: what holidays are celebrated on this day in Ukraine

On December 1, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Prosecutor’s Office Workers, a state professional holiday established by the President in 2000. Although this day is not a day off, it deserves congratulations for everyone who works in this field, in honor of the adoption of the Law “On the Prosecutor’s Office” in 1991.

It is interesting to note that the prosecutor’s office, in some form, existed back in the 6-4 centuries BC. In the Northern Black Sea region there were nomophiliacs who monitored the implementation of laws and public behavior.

December 1 is also dedicated to World AIDS Day. This infection, caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), causes a severe weakening of the immune system. The main purpose of this day is to spread awareness about the disease and highlight the importance of prevention and timely treatment.

Also on December 1, Antarctica Day is celebrated, chosen in connection with the signing of the Antarctic Treaty, which prevents its military militarization and ensures the sovereignty of the continent. This holiday began to be celebrated in 2010.

Finally, Neurologist Day is celebrated unofficially but widely. Doctors in this area work with problems of the nervous system, and although this is not an official holiday, congratulations are also very appropriate for them. Neurology as an independent discipline emerged in 1860, becoming a separate field from pediatrics and psychology.

December 1: religious holidays according to the church calendar

According to the religious calendar, December 1 is the day of remembrance of the holy martyrs Plato and Roman, whose lives became evidence of fidelity to the Christian faith in the 4th century. And although little is known about the details of their biography, legends say that Plato, brother of the martyr Antiochus, was born into a pious family and preached Christianity from a very young age. Meetings with pagans, conversations about Christ and attempts to attract them to faith were his usual behavior. However, in an era when Agrippina, intolerant of righteous Christians, ruled as emperor, Plato was arrested in an attempt to force him to renounce his principles. Despite the torture, he remained true to his faith and was killed.

Saint Romanus also took the path of martyrdom for his faith during the time of Emperor Maximilian. Formerly a deacon in the city of Caesarea, Roman met an eparch on his way to a pagan holiday and began to call him to the true path. However, the bishop refused and ordered Roman to be punished. Another Christian, Varul, who decided to come to Roman’s defense, was also arrested and later killed. Their shared testimony was a shining example of unwavering faith in difficult times.
