The first teaser for Paolo Sorrentino’s “The Young Pope” series has appeared online. The film will tell about the young Pontiff, who has just headed the Catholic Church.
The plot of the series is not based on real events. It follows the fictional clergyman Lenny Belardo, who becomes the first American Pope, Pius XIII.
As the creators of the film write, the main character will go through a long and difficult path of loneliness in order to find God for himself and for humanity. “Shrewd and naive, old-fashioned and very modern, doubtful and decisive, ironic, pedantic and ruthless,” the main character is characterized in the description of the film.
Jude Law will play the dad in the series. Diane Keaton, Silvio Orlando, Cecile De France, James Cromwell will play alongside him in the film.
The series premiere is scheduled for October.
Sorrentino’s most recent works, “The Great Beauty” and “Youth,” received awards for the best film of the year at the European Film Academy.
