“Hero” is a box office record holder

Despite the fact that four new films – Paw Patrol: The Movie, Reminiscence, The Night House and Protégé – were released this weekend – Main the hero from the studios of Disney / 20th Century Studios managed to keep the first place with $ 19 million.

The drop was just 34% from last weekend’s expected opening of $28.4 million. The action-comedy has $100 million globally after just 10 days of release, a record for the pandemic era. The 45-day exclusive rental of the film in cinemas, which gives no other choice but to see the picture liked by the audience only on the big screen, also helped.

In second place was Paramount’s Paw Patrol, which debuted with $13 million from 3,184 theaters, a decent amount for a movie that was simultaneously released on the Paramount+ streaming service. Although Paramount studios did not release streaming data on the film’s collection, it is quite likely that a large part of the potential theater audience decided to watch the picture at home, especially given the fact that children under 12 – the key audience of Paw Patrol – are not yet eligible for vaccination against the coronavirus .

Internationally, Protagonist grossed $17.1 million in 46 countries, bringing its international cume to $53.1 million and a global cume of $111.9 million. In early-release, early-open markets, the 20th Century Studios film dropped just 26%. It also boasts a #1 opening in countries including Brazil, Spain and Portugal. To date, its main sources of income outside North America are the UK ($9.8 million) and Russia ($6.1 million), with the film expected to open in China next weekend.

Paw Patrol grossed $12.8 million in its second weekend overseas, including from 33 new countries. Its international collection is $21.5 million. This weekend, Suicide Squad collected an additional $8.7 million in 73 countries, bringing its overseas total to $91.5 million and a global cume of $140.8 million. Its main markets to date are the UK ($17 million), Russia ($8.4 million), France ($5.2 million) and Germany ($4.9 million).

Fast and Furious 9 (F9) took $7.27 million overseas this weekend, including a $3.1 million opening in Italy. The film has now grossed $593.82 million overseas and $696.41 million worldwide, the highest international and worldwide totals of any pandemic-era release to date.
