The FILM.UA company has established itself as a leader in the Ukrainian film industry. She has produced dozens of series, TV shows and films. The studio’s projects have collected 68 awards and 127 nominations at prestigious international film festivals. And her theatrical films set a number of box office records. Below are ten films and TV series from the studio that are worth watching.
“Single under contract” (2014)
Youth rock bands with a cute lead singer and rhythmic songs have always been a hit with teenage girls. The lead singer of one of these groups, Slava Lebedev, became an idol for thousands of schoolgirls in just six months. But not for Lily, who lived in the USA for a year on an exchange program and does not know at all who is now the leader of the music ratings.
Newly-made lovers face many challenges. Their sympathy will be hampered by Slava’s popularity, a contract prohibiting the guy from any romantic relationships, as well as many stereotypes about the life of rockers. But youthful love is capable of miracles.
“Crazy Wedding” (2018)
Vasily Seredyuk is the conservative chairman of the district cultural club. His greatest pride is his eldest daughter Katya, a student at the Sorbonne. One day she announces that she is marrying the French heart surgeon Francois. For Vasily, this is not only European integration, but also a trump card in the eternal enmity with his neighbor Taras on the topic of which of them is the greater patriot.
But instead of a son-in-law, Katya gives dad a pig… That is, an Afro-Frenchman. Now Serdyuk is haunted by the eternal Ukrainian question “What will people say?”
“Strong Outpost” (2018)
The film tells about a modern schoolboy Vitka. Through a mysterious time portal, he finds himself in the past – a thousand years ago. On the lands of Kievan Rus, Vitka meets legendary warriors: young Oleshko, powerful Ilya and strict Dobrynya.
He learns that a terrible danger is approaching Rus’. To return home, the guy will have to go out to fight the Polovtsian evil spirits, overcome his own fears and show real courage. It seems that Vitka will have no time left to watch films about travel. But he will be able to teach the legendary heroes modern slang.
“The Stolen Princess” (2018)
The cartoon tells a magical story that took place in medieval Kyiv during the times of brave warriors, beautiful princesses and powerful sorcerers. The traveling artist Ruslan, who dreams of becoming a knight, met the beautiful Mila. He immediately fell in love with her, not even suspecting that this girl was the daughter of a Kyiv prince.
But the happiness of lovers is not destined to last forever. The evil sorcerer Chernomor appeared in a magical whirlwind and kidnapped his beloved before Ruslan’s eyes. The magician wants to turn the power of her love into his own witchcraft power. Without hesitation, Ruslan sets off in pursuit of the kidnapped princess. Having overcome all the obstacles and dangers on his way, he strives to prove that true love is stronger than magic.
“Nezlamna” (“Battle for Sevastopol”, 2015)
The film tells about the Ukrainian girl sniper Lyudmila Pavlichenko. She killed more than 300 enemies in the first ten months of World War II. Pavlichenko became the first Soviet woman who managed to make friends with the mistress of the White House, Eleanor Roosevelt.
“The Sniffer” (2013)
In the center of the plot is a middle-aged man, known to many under the name Sniffer. The main character has an exceptional sense of smell, thanks to which he can tell absolutely everything about a person, right down to what he ate and with whom he spent the night.
A close friend of Sniffer works in a special investigation bureau. And the main character helps him solve the most complex and confusing cases. But for him, this is a real curse. After all, his unique abilities make the Sniffer himself absolutely defenseless in front of a world where many different smells await you at every corner.
“Red Queen” (2015)
A simple provincial girl, Zoya Kolesnikova, lives in a working-class family, is an excellent student and plans to become a mathematician. But her alcoholic father intervenes in her cloudless fate, and one tragic incident forces Zoya to change her name and leave for Moscow on the first train. The capital does not greet her warmly, although it sends her a wise mentor.
Here she goes to university to become an accountant. But fate has completely different plans for the future of this beautiful and stately girl. Subsequently, Christian Dior and Federico Fellini would admire her. And on European catwalks it will be called “the Kremlin’s secret weapon.”
“Red Bracelets” (2014-2015)
In the children’s building of a multidisciplinary hospital, six teenage patients decide to unite in the Red Bracelets group in order to overcome the difficulties that arise together. This is a story of love and pain that shows that children can be very strong. Sometimes even stronger than adults. And the problems they face can also be more serious than those of adults. But they don’t give up.
“Moths” (2013)
The film takes place against the backdrop of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, which occurred on the night of April 25-26, 1986. High school student Alya Shirokova and her older sister Maryana go to the graveyard
to visit your relatives in Pripyat. At that moment, they could not even imagine that they would witness such tragic events. Right before the sisters’ eyes, a powerful explosion of a nuclear reactor occurs at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, located just two kilometers from the city.
“Old Colonels” (2007)
The main characters of the film are Andrei Andreevich and Oleg Borisovich – retired colonels. One was in charge of the local KGB, the other was in charge of the police. A famous businessman is brutally murdered in their city. This forces pensioners to remember their youth, their operational service skills and declare war on the local criminals.
Retired officers deftly manipulate events and literally pit criminal gangs against each other. Reports on the situation in the city reach the Prosecutor General’s Office. In this regard, the management deliberately sends there a promising investigator, Elena Reshetnikova. However, in the case, Elena shows herself from a completely different side.
