Underwater photography has always captivated audiences with its beauty, but few photographers are willing to work alongside wild sharks. That is exactly the challenge renowned photographer Benjamin Von Wong embraced when creating his Shark Shepherd series. To bring the project to life, Von Wong traveled to the Fiji Islands, one of the world’s premier destinations for shark diving. How the Underwater Photoshoot Was Created<\/h2>\n

The shoot lasted three days and required flawless coordination from everyone involved. The greatest challenge was the limited period each day when the sharks were active and natural sunlight reached the underwater location. Model and champion freediver Amber Bourke was carefully secured to an underwater rock so she could remain perfectly still. A custom-designed flowing dress was created specifically for the project, allowing the fabric to move gracefully through the water and create a dreamlike sense of weightlessness.<\/p>\n

The next challenge was waiting for the sharks to swim into the perfect position. According to Von Wong, whitetip reef sharks were naturally curious but extremely cautious. They often approached the team before quickly swimming away if anyone made a sudden movement. Once everything aligned, Bourke removed her mask, held her breath, and posed for only a few precious seconds.<\/p>\n

The most remarkable aspect of the Shark Shepherd series is that every image was created entirely underwater in real conditions. There were no digitally added sharks or artificial composite scenes\u2014only genuine dives, natural lighting, and meticulous preparation.
