Yet the film\u2019s production was not without scandal. Initially, the main role was played by Kevin Spacey, but after accusations of sexual misconduct, the director had to urgently reshoot all scenes with a new actor \u2014 Christopher Plummer. For Plummer, this unexpected turn led to a nomination for the film industry\u2019s highest award \u2014 the Oscar in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>The movie recreates real events that occurred in 1973. From 1957 to 1976, Jean Paul Getty topped the list of the world\u2019s wealthiest individuals. It was during this time that his grandson, John Paul Getty III \u2014 who lived a bohemian lifestyle in Rome \u2014 was kidnapped. For five months, the elder Getty refused to pay the ransom of 17 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cutinsight.com\/ru\/fylm-pro-konomycheskyy-kryzys-kotor-y-vsehda-vozvrashchaetsia\/\">million dollars<\/a>, explaining his stance with the words: \u201cI have fourteen grandchildren.
