Shang-Chi will run exclusively in theaters for 45 days from its release, while Black Widow was available through the Disney+ streaming platform. Shang-Chi dropped 53% in its second weekend, which is quite a solid performance compared to other recent Disney releases &#8211; Black Widow (-68%), Jungle Cruise (-55%) and Cruella (-49%).<\/p>\n<p>Internationally, Shang Chi added $35.2 million in 42 countries for an overseas total of $112 million. The film collected 257.6 million dollars at the global box office. Top markets include the UK ($16.4M), South Korea ($10.7M), France ($7.5M), Russia ($6.1M), Japan ($5.5M) , Hong Kong ($5.1 million), Germany ($5 million), Brazil ($4.6 million), Mexico ($4.4 million), Spain ($4 million), Italy ($3.2 million) and Singapore ($3.2 million). The film is scheduled to be released in New Zealand next weekend, but there is no release date in China yet.<\/p>\n<p>The one in theaters only Disney&#8217;s The Protagonist, produced under the 20th Century Studios brand, took second place in North America with $5.8 million from 3,650 screens in its fifth weekend &#8212; falling 35 from its all-time total. %. The film crossed the $100 million mark ($101.8 million in North America), while its overseas haul added another $174.4 million to reach $276.5 million worldwide. China continues to lead internationally with $76.3 million, followed by the UK with $19.7 million, Russia with $10.4 million and France with $5.1 million.<\/p>\n<p>The best debutant this weekend was the horror studio Warner Bros. (Malignant), which grossed $5.5 million from 3,485 screens. The film grossed $6.3 million in 69 countries for an international cume of $9.5 million and $15.1 million worldwide. Russia led all new openings with $953K from 1,079 screens, followed by the UK with $574K from 630 screens and Mexico with $514K from 1,340 screens. Spain continues to be the leading foreign market with a turnover of 1.4 million dollars. Nuance: Malignant is available for daily viewing at home by HBO Max subscribers.<\/p>\n<p>Universal&#8217;s theater-exclusive Candyman nearly beat out Malignant despite being in its third weekend of release. The film added $4.8 million from 3,279 screens to reach $48 million domestically. The film has an additional $13.5 million from 53 foreign countries.<\/p>\n<p>Focus Features launched the second-biggest opening weekend for a special title of the year from acclaimed director Paul Scharder (The Card Counter).
