Cost and features of higher education in Poland

When choosing an institution for higher education, an applicant takes into account many factors, including the required specialties, reviews, the prestige of the university, the cost of studying at universities in Poland and many others.

Cost of studying at Polish universities
In terms of the price of education, Polish higher education institutions are often much more profitable than institutions in other European countries. The price of training depends on several important factors:

form of ownership of the educational institution (private or public);
choice of specialty and its demand in the labor market;
language of instruction (in Poland, many institutions have a choice of Polish or English);
forms of education (correspondence or full-time).
According to these factors, it is worth saying that in private institutions the payment is often lower than in public ones. But this does not in any way affect the ranking of the university among others; it needs to be checked. Also, studying in Polish usually costs less than in English, because the former is the teacher’s native language, and finding teachers who can teach different subjects in English will cost money.

Structure of education in Poland
The Central Statistical Office reported that 1.2 million people were students in Poland last year. Among these people, almost 85 thousand were foreigners and most, about half, were Ukrainians. Studying in Poland, about which you can read more at the link www.wsb.pl/russian/ucheba-v-polshe, is an opportunity for them to receive a European diploma and get a well-paid job. Even taking into account the coronavirus pandemic, the number of foreign students has not decreased, but only increased.

The Polish higher education system has a training structure consisting of several cycles:

The first cycle is bachelor’s degree. To enter this level, the applicant must have a school certificate and a supplement with grades for it. After training, the student will have either an engineer’s diploma, if the specialty is technical, or a bachelor’s degree, if other specialties. In the first case, study is 3.5 years, in the second – 3 years.
The second cycle is for those who already have a bachelor’s degree. For technical specialties, upon completion, a master’s degree in engineering is issued, and for the rest – a regular master’s diploma. The duration of training is influenced by the choice of faculty.
The third cycle is admission to doctoral studies after completing bachelor’s and master’s degrees. The duration of study can range from two to four years. During this cycle, students have the opportunity to gain the newest and most in-depth knowledge in a particular science or discipline. To defend the title of Doctor of Science, a student must write a doctoral dissertation at the end of his studies. After its defense, a diploma is issued.
In Poland there is also education in the profession after university, which is necessary to improve the qualifications of a specialist. Each time after completing such training, specialists receive certificates.
