Seeing your dog smile is an incomparable feeling. This is such a joy for our heart, strained by the endless daily bustle, that at this moment, it seems, nothing else matters. This is a balm for the soul and a dose of joy at the same time; we believe that photographs of smiling dogs should be prescribed by a doctor as a prevention of sadness.
So, when a new challenge appeared in the Dog Spotting Society Facebook group, it was destined to go viral, and it did. 20 thousand people took part in it, because the #SmilingDogChallenge, that is, a smiling dog, is what we all need today. So, get ready for the best reactions to the phrase “smile!” from the world of dogs.
And although scientists are still not sure whether dogs can actually smile like people, it is clear that these good boys and girls experience complete happiness. After all, those eyes can’t lie.
Zero wins
We contacted Daniel, the owner of this beautiful miniature Australian Shepherd named Zero. The photo, posted as part of the #smilingdogchallenge in the Dogspotting community, shows the dog smiling with his eyes open. With 18k likes on Facebook, she has gone viral, and that’s on top of the fact that Zero is a rising star dog influencer on social media, with 3.4k followers on Instagram.
Daniel said he’s not sure dogs can smile like people, but sometimes that’s what seems to happen. As for Zero, “sometimes he just looks at me and I tell him he’s a good boy and he gives me this sweet look.”
It turned out that this blue-eyed shepherd will turn one year old next month. Daniel says that the dog is very emotional and sociable. “And at the same time, he is incredibly cute. Zero loves to find dirt or some kind of puddle and roll around there, and gets terribly worried if he can’t get somewhere, or if he sees something he likes.” All this can undoubtedly be seen in his cheerful eyes!
Photo a week later, when we started living with Riley. She was 5, my father was 97. She shared the last 3 years of his life with him, and brought both him and me so much joy. More than anything, he wanted a retriever and cried just looking at pictures of them. She was the answer to his prayers and is the most wonderful dog anyone could wish for.
My Jonas always has a big smile
Even when he was dying, no one knew about it. He loved life endlessly. And he loved us even more. This is a photo of Jonas and me taken last September, 46 hours before he was put to sleep due to spleen cancer. In these photos, I didn’t know that this was the last time I would hug him. I know that on the rainbow bridge you smile just as joyfully, my love.
And here are other beautiful smiling dogs:
