Euro 2024: 11 interesting facts about the championship

The 17th European Football Championship will be held in Germany from June 14 to July 14. Teams from 24 countries will take part in it. We have collected 11 striking facts about the main football event of this summer.

The German national team holds the record for the number of participations in EURO final tournaments (14 times including this). Germany and Spain have won the European Championship three times each, more than any other team.

Cristiano Ronaldo is preparing to play in the Euro finals for the sixth time. This will be the fifth tournament for his Portugal teammate Pepe and Croatian midfielder Luka Modric.

This will be the fourth European Football Championship in a row, in the final part of which the Ukrainian national team will take part. For the first time, our players fought for the European Cup in 2012, when Ukraine was the host of the championship together with Poland. And our team participated in the FIFA World Cup only once – in 2006. And then it also took place in Germany.

This is the fourth time Germany has hosted the Euro. This time the matches will take place in 10 cities: Berlin, Cologne, Dortmund, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Leipzig, Munich and Stuttgart.

Albert the bear became the mascot of Euro 2024. He was chosen among other candidates for the title following a vote among UEFA.com readers and schoolchildren across Europe through the UEFA Football in Schools programme.

The team that wins the championship will receive 40 gold medals. The same number of silver medals will go to the team that takes second place.

A total of 51 matches will be played during the tournament. They will take place over 22 game days.

The total prize money for Euro 2024 will be 331 million euros. They made the same amount at the previous European Championship.

The official anthem of Euro 2024 is called FIRE. It was created by Italian producers Meduza, American group OneRepublic and German singer Leonу. This track embodies the fervor and spirit of both football and music lovers.

The tournament organizers are focusing on environmental friendliness. It therefore promises to be the most environmentally sustainable European Championship ever. Especially for this purpose, the championship will attract investments in the amount of 32 million euros.
