Oscar record holders: who has the most statuettes?

Although the choice of film academics can be controversial and not everyone can agree with their preference, the record-breaking Oscar-winning films definitely deserve attention.

The record holders among films for the number of statuettes are three films: “Ben-Hur” (1959), “Titanic” (1997) and the final part of “The Lord of the Rings” (2003).

Ben-Hur was nominated in 12 categories and won in 11: Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Cinematography, Design, Best Costume Design, Sound, Special Effects, Editing and Best Score.

The American disaster film Titanic won in 11 out of 14 categories: best film, best director, cinematographer, production designer, costume designer, best sound, editing, sound effects editing, best visual effects, best song and soundtrack.

And the final part of the film trilogy, directed by Peter Jackson based on the novel “The Lord of the Rings” by J. R. R. Tolkien, “knocked out” 11 out of 11: best picture, best director, adapted screenplay, set design, costumes, sound, editing, visual effects, makeup , song and original soundtrack.

But other films became record-breaking nominees. The following films received 14 nominations for one award: “Titanic” (1997), “All About Eve” (1950) and “La La Land” (2016).

The main losers among the films are “The Turning Point” (1977) and “The Color Purple” (1985): they had 11 nominations each, but not a single award.
